Italian Open Golf Tips: Gary Boyd

Returning to the same course, the price is simply too big for last year’s runner-up.

My final tip for the Italian Open is the classic ‘horses for courses’ angle. Last year Gary Boyd finished on 20-under, one shot adrift of eventual winner Robert Rock. The course clearly suits the 25-year-old and there is no way he should be 150/1 (Blue Square) on his return to Italy.

Much of Boyd’s price is driven by the fact he has struggled in 2012, rarely threatening the upper echelons of the leaderboard. However, he achieved his best result of the season just three starts ago with a T19 at Gleneagles. The ability is still there, exemplified by his Saturday round of 64, the second lowest of the week.

Last year’s runner-up is simply too big at 150/1 (Blue Square) and good each-way value with 1/4 odds for a top-5 finish.
