Italian Open Golf Tips: Craig Lee

Has three top-10s this year and encouraging putting display at the KLM Open last week.

It is getting to that time of year when players start fighting to secure their tour cards for 2013. Sat in 107th position on the Race to Dubai, Craig Lee is one of those in danger, but rather than wilt in the autumn his golf is starting to hot up.

In his last three tournaments, he’s finished T5-T14-T46 and although the competition has got harder he’s proved he can mix it with the big boys after a T7 at the Irish Open in July.

Last week at the KLM Open, he was in contention after an opening round of 66 but faded over the weekend. The positive to take out of the tournament was his putting. His 84 GIR putts was only one behind tournament winner Peter Hanson, proving that when he found the green he could make a score.

This bodes well for the Italian Open, played on an easier course, he should create more opportunities and with a hot putter, I expect he will take them.

At 200/1 (Skybet) he is massively overpriced considering his good form and looks excellent each-way value with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
