Madeira Islands Open Trends

The European Tour stops at the beautiful island of Madeira. We look at the trends of past winners.

The Clube de Golf do Santo da Serra hosts the Madeira Islands Open for the fourth successive year. The course enjoys spectacular views but on the scorecard it rates as a standard par-72.

The altitude means balls fly further but the wind can create tricky scoring conditions.

We have examined the last five course winners, excluding last year’s curtailed tournament and two obvious trends emerge.

Top-80 on tour for driving distance.
The last four winners have ranked in the top-80 on tour for driving distance with previous champions Daniel Vancsik and Peter Uihlein amongst the biggest hitters on tour.

Top-60 on tour for sand save percentage.
Bunkers are the main hazards on course with four of the last five champions ranking inside the top-60 for sand save percentage.  The last two champions enjoyed 100% sand save percentages en route to victory.

Players that fit both trends:
Carlos Del Moral 40/1 BetVictor
Chris Paisley 50/1 Betfred
John Hahn 55/1 Coral
