Madeira Islands Open Tips: Ricardo Santos
Striking the ball well and just waiting for a week when the putts drop. Winner of the event in 2012.
In 2012, Ricardo Santos became the first Portuguese golfer to win on home soil and he looks well set to regain his title.
The 31-year-old has finished 1-T19 in two starts in Madeira and deserves his position at the head of the market.
In his last five tournaments he has finished T55-MC-T10-T18-T35; he is trending in the right direction and looks a winner in waiting once the putts drop.
In Malaysia he finished ranked T5 for GIRs but only T52 in putts per round. It was a similar story in China, T9 for GIRs but T28 in putts.
Tee to green his game is in excellent shape and on familiar greens this could be the week the putts drop. At 16/1 (Ladbrokes) I’d be surprised if he didn’t go close.
