Frys.com Open Golf Tips: Vaughn Taylor

Finished T30 last year; rallying after a disastrous front-nine on Day 1. Showed glimmer of form at the JT Shriners.

For my final selection I’m taking a punt on Vaughn Taylor bouncing back to form.

After a quiet season, the 2006 Ryder Cup player needs to bank some big cheques if he is to retain his playing rights. Things started well last week in Las Vegas, shooting an opening round of 65. He was unable to sustain that form but it proved he’s still capable of going low on his day.

Ranked 68th for GIRs and 64th for strokes gained putting, his game should be suited to CordeValle. Last year he finished T30, a good result considering he was 4-over for his front-nine on Thursday.

The 36-year-old should create plenty of birdie opportunities and if he can sink a few putts the 150/1 (Paddy Power) will look very big. Back him each-way and get ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
