Frys.com Open Golf Tips: Ben Curtis

One of the best putters on tour and won’t be penalised by lack of distance off the tee.

Ben Curtis has to be on the short-list for any tournament that boils down to a putting competition. Ranked 9th on tour for strokes gained putting, he’s enjoyed an excellent season with the flat stick.

After a great start to the year, which included a win at the Valero Texas Open, Curtis went off the boil. But a T11 at the USPGA and a T24 at the BMW Championship represent a return to form considering they were achieved in strong fields.

Where Ben Curtis tends to struggle is on long courses. With an average driving distance of 276.1 yards, he is one of the tour’s more modest hitters, but he shouldn’t be inconvenienced at CordeValle where the averaging driving distance was only 275.8 yards last year.

At 50/1 (Coral) he looks good value on a course that should suit his game. Back him each-way and get ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
