BMW PGA Championship Tip: Paul Casey

Casey won in 2009.

The world number nine just loves a trip to Wentworth.

With Westwood, Donald and Poulter hogging the headlines recently it’s easy to forget that another Englishman, Paul Casey is the man with arguably the best pedigree for the BMW PGA Championship that starts at Wentworth on Thursday. The 2009 champion has a five year record in the event of T17-1-T10-T12-T11. Always a contender then, and his 2006 World Matchplay title was secured on the same Surrey fairways with an awesome 10&8 demolition in the final. On a course that isn’t every top player’s cup of tea, Casey is standout value at 33/1 with Betfred.

It’s no surprise that the 3-time European Ryder Cup star is a success here with his game well suited to the challenges of the course. Long, accurate drivers of the ball tend to prosper at Wentworth and Casey most definitely fits that description. He rates 9th on tour for driving distance in 2011 and if his radar is up to its usual Wentworth standards then he will be in the mix. Following his triumph in the Volvo Golf Champions event in January, Casey will be eyeing this as a perfect opportunity to claim his 12th European Tour win.
