Abu Dhabi Golf Championship Betting

Show me the money

The best players in the world start their campaigns in the Abu Dhabi desert on Thursday.

A high quality field has assembled in the desert for the HSBC Golf Championship. The best of Europe reconvene, with Tiger Woods providing the extra ingredient. His appearance may have come at a price but it certainly adds to the tournament. The former world number one is 9/1 with Bet365. He might still be a box office hit but the bookmakers aren’t in awe anymore.

Three-time winner Martin Kaymer heads the betting at 13/2 (Betfred) on account of his excellent course record. The German had an inconsistent 2011 but is almost untouchable in the Abu Dhabi desert.

The biggest surprise is Luke Donald languishing fourth in the betting at 14/1 (Bet365). It seems the world number 1 still doesn’t command the bookmakers’ respect when faced with a high quality field.  The lustre associated with being a major winner seems to be affecting the prices, with Rory McIlroy almost half Donald’s price at 15/2 with BetVictor.

With the media focus on the big names don’t be surprised if a long shot causes an upset. The field has strength in depth with fellow master of the desert Alvaro Quiros 33/1 with Boylesports to add to his win in Dubai late last year.
