Spanish Grand Prix Tip: Fernando Alonso

Alonso To Reign In Spain

Seemed to close the gap in Turkey and has three podiums in the last five years.

There is not much to state beyond the obvious fact that Red Bull have the fastest car. The betting market is fully aware of this and there is not much value to be had backing them.

Their one Achilles heel has been the KERS system and that problem has reoccurred in Spain. In the four races to date, in only one was KERS fully functioning. That has brought them closer to the pack, so there is hope for the rest of the paddock.

In Turkey, Ferrari finally came out the cul-de-sac they have been circling all season. Fernando Alonso finished 10 seconds behind Vettel for comfortably his best performance of the season. With numerous world champions in the field, the Spaniard is still the best driver and given a half decent car he can be competitive.

His record at the Circuit de Catalunya is also good; three podium finishes in the last five years with one win. At 8/1 he is priced on his early season form and now is the time to back him before his revival is obvious to everyone. At 1/5th odds for a top three finish, backing him each way gives us a good chance to turn a profit even if he doesn’t win. We even have the bonus of the Betfred concession if he finishes second to Lewis Hamilton
