Singapore GP Tips: Fernando Alonso

Two-time winner in Singapore and would have gone close in Italy if it wasn’t for a problem in qualifying.

McLaren may have won the last three races but their dominance isn’t as total as the results would have you believe. There is a case that Ferrari are equally quick but haven’t had the opportunity to show their pace.

After dominating qualifying at Monza, a problem with the car in Q3 meant the best Fernando Alonso could start was 10th.  Despite the setback, he drove a fine race to finish on the podium, matching Hamilton’s race pace.

If we trust Ferrari have a fast car, we can be certain Alonso will exploit it in Singapore. In four starts at the track, he has finished 1-3-1-4.

The results in 2008 & 2009 were particularly impressive considering his Ferrari was by no means the best car in F1.  The third place in 2009 was the only time he featured on the podium all season!

Fernando Alonso looks cracking value at 5/1, but with Blue Square offering ¼ odds for a top-3 finish, we are guaranteed a small profit if he just finishes on the podium. Even better value when you consider Felipe Massa is under orders to help his teammate.
