Monaco Grand Prix Tip: Mark Webber

Winner last year and showed in Spain that he has the speed to put the car on pole.

This weekend is the glamour race that is the Monaco Grand Prix. Steeped in history, it is an event that all the great racers have won - excect Sebastian Vettel. The young German has time on his side but his record in the principality is not great: 2-DNF-5 without a single pole position.

For the first time this season we saw in Spain that Vettel could be bettered in qualifying. Mark Webber put in a stunning pole, something that will give him great confidence to take to Monaco, where grid position is key. Despite the introduction of DRS and KERS it is hard to envisage many passing manoeuvres. The pits represent the only opportunity to jump your rival.

Last year Mark Webber led from start to finish to enjoy perhaps the finest win of his career. Having raced nine times at Monte Carlo in F1, he has finished behind his team mate just once. The two times he has retired through mechanical faults he was ahead of his team mate at the time. He will not have had many better rivals than Vettel in those nine years, but it shows how well he drives this idiosyncratic track.

At 1/5 the odds for a top three finish we can back the Australian each way at 5/1 safe in the knowledge that a podium finish will at least get our money back.
