British Grand Prix Tips: Mark Webber

Finished on the podium in the last four British GPs & RedBull still have the fastest car.

After announcing that he is to quit Formula 1 at the end of the season, you can be sure Mark Webber wants to go out with a bang. The drivers’ championship looks beyond him but he should be able to record some podium finishes.

The British GP has been kind to Mark Webber over the years and I expect another strong performance this weekend. The Australian won the race in 2010 & 2012 and hasn’t finished outside the top-3 since 2008.

Three weeks ago in Canada a podium finish went begging after Webber tangled with a backmarker. The damage to his front wing was notable but he still managed to record the fastest lap of the race. I can’t help feeling that a trouble-free race and/or a better qualifying performance would have seen him finish higher than fourth.

At 10/1 (Sportingbet) the odds on a race win are tempting but with Vettel in fine form I’m going to play it safe and back Webber to finish on the podium at 6/4 with Paddy Power.
