Italian GP Tip: Nico Rosberg

Rosberg looking for podium

The Mercedes showed excellent straight-line speed at the Belgian GP. Monza should suit even better.

Monza is a low-down force track, with long straights and barely any bends to worry about, straight-line speed is crucial. As we saw at Spa a fortnight ago, the conditions favour the Mercedes.

After a blistering start Nico Rosberg found himself near the front of the race and kept pace with his rivals. The Mercedes showed such phenomenal straight line speed that the likes of Ferrari and McLaren were struggling to overtake. Poor tyre strategy eventually hurt Rosberg, finishing sixth one place behind his teammate Michael Schumacher.

Nevertheless it was an encouraging performance from the all German outfit. Ross Brawn will be desperate for his team to get one podium this season and Monza is his best chance.

At 50/1, Rosberg is shorter odds than Schumacher, but this is warranted as he has outperformed the seven-time world champion this year. Back him each way and get 1/5 odds for a podium finish.
