German GP Tips: Nico Rosberg

Now that Mercedes are managing their tyre wear, they are a force to be reckoned with.

Nico Rosberg’s victory at Silverstone could be a watershed moment for Mercedes. As noted in our post race analysis, it was the first time Mercedes managed to replicate their qualifying pace over full race distance without destroying their tyres.

It is a strange coincidence this turnaround in fortune comes so soon after the controversial tyre test in Spain. Mercedes were reprimanded for their actions but they seem to be reaping the benefits regardless.

Having solved their tyre degradation issues I expect Mercedes to be competing for race wins from now until the end of the season but the bookmakers have been slow to react.

Lewis Hamilton is 4/1 (Betfred) to win the German GP but with little to choose between him and his teammate, I’m siding with Nico Rosberg at 7/1 (Bet365).

The German driver will be keen to perform well in front of his home crowd and having won two of the last three grand prix he looks a solid each-way bet with 1/5 odds if he finishes on the podium.
