German GP Tips: Fernando Alonso

Four podiums in his last five races and gone well at Hockenheim in the past.

After the madness of F1 this year, the British GP was a relatively mundane affair. It was a race that Fernando Alonso should have won, but the wrong tyre strategy cost him in the end. Nevertheless, the Spaniard is top of the championship and driving brilliantly.

Ferrari seems to have overcome their early season struggles and are now delivering a car to match Alonso’s talents. In the last five races he has four podium finishes, and in a topsy-turvy season that consistency stands out.

Twice a winner at Hockenheim, the changes to the track don’t seem to have put him off, if anything Alonso performances have improved since Hermann Tilke adapted the course. It is a peculiar quirk that six of Alonso’s eight wins with Ferrari have come at Tilke designed circuits, despite them accounting for less than 50% of the F1 schedule.

It seems driver and car and perfectly matched to the track layout and although a win bet is tempting, in this unpredictable season, Alonso looks a better bet to finish on the podium at 5/6 with Paddy Power.
