Formula 1 Latest Odds: Melbourne FP2

McLaren F1

It was a good session for Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, with a surprise 1-2 in free practice.

It was McLaren who sprung the surprise in the second practise session in Melbourne, as Button and Hamilton finished 1-2 on the leaderboard. The upgrades that were predicted to improve the cars performances by a second, seem to have materialised.

It can be dangerous to read too much into free practice as we don’t know the fuel loads, but the bookmakers saw enough to cut the duo. Lewis Hamilton is 8/1 (from 13/1) to win the Australian Grand Prix, his team mate Button is 10/1 (from 20/1).

Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber filled the top five in that order. Their odds are on the drift to accommodate the improving McLarens. However Vettel is still favourite for the race, out to 2/1 from 15/8.

It is a similar story in the race for pole position, with the McLarens’ odds shortening. One lap specialist Vettel is still favourite at 5/4 with Sportingbet.
