British Grand Prix Tip: Nico Rosberg

Drives the track well and the strong Mercedes engine might give him an edge.

The British Grand Prix marks an F1 rule change that might create a small upset. The FIA have introduced a ban on off-throttle diffusers - this is where exhaust gases are blown over the rear of the car increasing downforce.

Without getting technical Renault, who supply Red Bull’s engines, are complaining that Mercedes are bending the rules to get an unfair advantage. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen, but in the first practice session both Mercedes were in the top six.

The other reason to be optimistic is that Nico Rosberg drives well at Silverstone. In the last three years he has finished 3-5-9, always improving from grid positions of 5-7-20.

After Red Bull, the next three constructors are evenly matched for pace. If Mercedes do gain a performance edge from the rule changes then it is worth a speculative each way bet on Nico Rosberg. At 1/5 the odds for a podium finish, there is still a healthy return even if he does not win.
