The Forgotten £23million Man

When the football world went mad one January evening the transfer of a prolific Uruguayan striker was forgotten. Have the bookmakers underestimated him too?

It mustn’t be forgotten that last night Liverpool landed one of the most sought after strikers in Europe, they also got him for £12.3 million less that Andy Carroll.

Luis Suarez starred in Uruguay’s run to the World Cup semi final, scored 111 goals in 159 appearances for Ajax and last season netted 49 goals in 48 games. Not a bad record.

It will be fascinating to see how he fares in the Premier League and the bookmakers are not sure how to react. His debut could be on Wednesday night at home against Stoke and most bookmakers bet odds on that he scores.

The most circumspect bookmaker is bet365 who go 11/8 that Luis Suarez scores at any time during the game. It is worth noting that on his Eredivisie debut he scored in an 8-1 thrashing of De Graafschap and on his home debut he scored two. Bet365 have him at 40/1 to go one better and score a hat-trick against Stoke.
