Sunderland v Peterborough Tip

Sunderland's problems weren't all down to Di Canio. This is still a potential banana skin.

The Sunderland hierarchy may think they will turn a corner simply by sacking Paulo Di Canio but the reality is that the Black Cats’ shortcomings are deeply-rooted. Peterborough are a best price 4/1 (Betfred) to beat them in the Capital One Cup and that looks like definite value.

Posh are flying high in League One having won six of their first eight league matches to sit second in the table. Highlights have included a 5-0 win at Tranmere and a 3-0 success at Bristol City to show that Darren Ferguson’s boys can do the business on their travels. Peterborough also beat Championship Reading by an astonishing 6-0 scoreline in the last round of this competition.

Meanwhile Sunderland have taken a meagre one point from five top flight games and caretaker Kevin Ball will have a job reversing the club’s fortunes pretty much overnight. The prospects of an upset must be twice as good as the odds suggest.
