Sunderland Odds 2012-13

Sunderland look nailed-on for mid-table.

Hard to imagine anything too dramatic happening at the Stadium of Light this season. A goalscorer is desperately needed if the Black Cats are ever going to challenge for a Europa League spot.

Best Title Odds: 1500/1 (Coral)

Value Bet: 12/1 (StanJames) - Sebastian Larsson to be Sunderland’s top league goalscorer.

If there’s one team who are liable to finish with a midfielder as top scorer it’s the Black Cats. The Swede finished only one behind Bendtner last campaign and the striker has returned to Arsenal now anyway.

Summary:

Martin O’Neill made a dramatic impact when he took the reigns last December but the season petered out once mid-table mediocrity was assured. The Northern Irishman is still desperate for firepower with new recruit Louis Saha an improvement, but probably past his best at 34.

Verdict:

In 2011-12 the Mackems were dreadful, then magnificent, then back to pretty ordinary. They won’t let many in, but equally they won’t give opposition defenders sleepless nights either. The manager has earned the right to make a top-10 finish at best odds of 11/10 (Ladbrokes) look likely.
