Sunderland 9/5 for relegation as Di Canio Arrives

The Wearsiders have put their faith in the former West Ham star after sacking Martin O'Neill.

Sunderland have gambled hard by replacing the vastly experienced Martin O’Neill with the enigmatic Paulo Di Canio over the weekend, and the bookies aren’t fully convinced.

The Black Cats were 3/1 shots for relegation heading into the weekend and now they are nothing longer than 9/5 (Coral) to avoid the dreaded drop.

It’s reasonable to presume that this cut had little to do with the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United which surely would have been anticipated. Victory for Wigan will have been factored in too of course, but the change of management with seven games remaining is the big news.

It’s been a trying few days for the Mackems who have also lost the services of captain Lee Cattermole and leading scorer Steven Fletcher for the remainder of the season through injury.

With the upcoming fixtures looking daunting - Chelsea and Newcastle away - Betting Bias’s tip on Sunderland to go down at odds of 7/2, only a week ago, looks like it will get a good run for its money at the very least.
