Schalke v Arsenal Tip
The Gunners aren't going to stay in their slump forever and their European pedigree makes their price too big here.
Arsenal may have endured something of a torrid time of late but they are proven in the art of progressing from the Champions League groups stages - something the bookies appear to have forgotten. At a best price of 9/4 (Coral) in the draw no bet market against Schalke, the Gunners are excellent value even with insurance thrown in.
The north London giants have progressed to the knockout phases of the premier European competition for five years running. After losing at home to the Germans last month, they know only too well the importance of claiming a result in the re-match.
Arsene Wenger is due a response from his players and it is worth remembering that they still boast the best defensive record in the Premier League so far this season with only 8 goals conceded in 10 fixtures. There is a solid foundation to build upon.
Comparatively speaking, Schalke are not greatly experienced at Champions League level and they suffered a setback of their own at the weekend when losing 3-2 to Hoffenheim. They have also only kept one clean sheet in their last 14 European home clashes. There are grounds for hope for Arsenal and the odds-makers may have written them off too soon.
