Rooney out of FA Cup Semi

Rooney is banned for swearing

Wayne Rooney will miss the all-Manchester semi final clash through suspension. It could open the door for arch rivals City.

Manchester City’s hopes of FA Cup glory have marginally improved with the news that United striker Rooney will be suspended for the Wembley showdown. This is, at least, the view of Boylesports who have pushed Ferguson’s side out to 11/10 for the trophy with the Blues cut to 2/1 from 9/4.

Victor Chandler have eased the price on United winning their semi in 90 minutes to 11/8 with the draw now seen as more likely at 21/10. The best odds on City winning on the day are still 21/10 with Totesport. Most other firms are so far unphased by the news that the England striker will miss out as punishment for swearing, after scoring his third goal against West Ham. It may be that they feel United can cope just as well with Dmitar Berbatov in the starting line-up, the Premier League’s top goalscorer. The league leaders are a best price 6/5 to lift the Cup with Coral.

Rooney’s ban aside, it has been a great few days for Alex Ferguson as results have gone his way in two major competitions. The best odds on a United treble are now no longer than 10/1 with SkyBet.
