Relegation Betting: It's Anyone's Guess

The bookmakers think Wigan are doomed. After them it could be any of eleven.

Four points from safety at the foot of the table, the bookmakers think Wigan have already slipped through the relegation trap door. At 1/4 in the betting, the Latics find themselves the shortest odds any team has been for the drop all season.

As for the rest – the odds compilers might as well invest in a big hat and put eleven names in it. Bookmakers have priced everyone up to and including Newcastle, who lie in ninth position. All of them are odds against to go down.

Blackpool and Wolves are joint second favourites for relegation at 6/5, followed by West Ham at 13/8 and West Brom at 15/8. Blackburn continue to slip deeper into trouble and are only 7/2 to be relegated having been as big as 14/1 only a fortnight ago.

In such a close season, Newcastle range from 12/1 to 33/1 to be relegated. Even though they sit in the top half of the table they are only six points off the bottom three.
