Reading v Sunderland Tip

Whatever fate befalls Reading this season they have given their fans some unbelievable late drama and success already.

As I flagged up before Sunderland’s last game, they are a side that often start matches well, only to fade. They are virtually a top four team based on first half scorelines but struggle to maintain momentum for 90 minutes. The opposite seems to be the case for Reading who have shown lately that they never know when they are beaten.

The Royals have somehow clambered out of the relegation zone after a run of one defeat in six top flight matches (W3 D2 L1). As good as those statistics are for a newly promoted team, they barely do justice to what Brian McDermott’s boys conjure up when the going gets tough.

Reading came from behind to beat Crawley in the FA Cup on 5 January and that proved to be just an appetiser. Next up, WBA were dispatched 3-2 having led 2-0 with eight minutes remaining. Then it was off to Newcastle where the Royals again trailed at the break before snatching three points. Most recently, Chelsea were pegged back from 0-2 to 2-2 in the final three minutes at a delirious Madejski Stadium.

Adam Le Fondre has been the primary catalyst with seven goals in five appearances, the majority of which have come from off the bench. Who knows if he will start on Saturday but you would fancy Reading to finish the game strongly regardless. The hosts are 5/1 (Bet365) to be level at half-time but win in 90 minutes, and on recent evidence that could be a bargain.
