Reading v Newcastle Tip: Demba Ba

Found the net last weekend and the stats show Newcastle are just as potent away from home.

Last week we discussed how Demba Ba is at his best when fresh and he continued his early season form with the winner against Norwich. Spared the rigors of the mid-week Capital One Cup, the Senegalese striker will be keen to continue the early season form that’s seen him score four goals in five games.

This week Newcastle travel to Reading in a contest not dissimilar to the Norwich game. I expect Alan Pardew will start with Demba Ba up front again, yet the striker’s goal-scoring odds have actually lengthened since last weekend.

Having been 6/4 to score anytime against Norwich, Ba is 2/1 (Coral) to find the net against Reading. This is because Newcastle are the away team, but if you look at last season’s form they are just as prolific on their travels.

2011/12 Season - Newcastle

Home Goals Scored: 29
Away Goals Scored: 27

Playing home or away doesn’t seem to make much difference to Newcastle’s offensive performance. Up against opposition that are no better than Norwich, you have to conclude that Demba Ba is therefore overpriced at 2/1 (Coral) to score anytime.
