QPR v Newcastle: First Goalscorer

Tarrabt has had many close calls already

The Moroccan forward is long overdue a goal this season and this looks like a perfect opportunity.

While much of the focus will be on the new signings at Loftus Road, most notably Joey Barton, it’s the QPR star of last season who could make the biggest impact on the night. Adel Tarrabt has had 14 attempts on goal this season without scoring; more than any other Premier League player prior to the latest round of matches. He is due. As most managers will tell you, the worry would be if he wasn’t getting the chances, but that clearly isn’t a concern with the Moroccan. At 8/1 with Coral to be first goalscorer on Monday evening, he provides us with some great value.

Tarrabt was Championship Player of the Year for 2010-11 and notched 19 league goals in the process. Not scoring in the first three outings at the higher level should not be a cause for concern, and it won’t be for a 22-year-old who isn’t lacking in confidence. It wasn’t a higher quality of defending that denied Tarrabt against Wigan last time out. He simply had the misfortune to strike the same post twice in the first half. With a player who is knocking at the door like that, it’s only a matter of time. With QPR buzzing under new ownership and with a cluster of exciting signings, this should be his time to shine.

Back Adel Tarrabt to be first goalscorer at a best price of 8/1 with Coral. Simply click on the odds, sign up with the bookie, and claim a free £30 bet.
