United Revival A False Dawn?

The pressure on David Moyes has eased after three victories in a row but results only serve to mask structural problems.

After three consecutive league wins, David Moyes seems to have weathered the storm at Man Utd. His team are only eight points behind leaders Arsenal and 14/1 (Bet365) to win the title having hit a high of 33/1 after their home defeat to Newcastle.

The spotlight has moved elsewhere but have things really improved at United?

Man Utd Shots on Target Supremacy

The table above illustrates the shots on target supremacy Man Utd have enjoyed over their opposition this season. A negative number means United allowed more shots on target then they registered themselves.

Apart from dominant performances against Crystal Palace (14 Sept) and West Ham (21 Dec) the Red Devils have struggled to outshoot their opponents. Although United have started to win games recently, their performances are still inconsistent and not wildly different from earlier in the season.

Man City Shots on Target Supremacy

City enjoy a seven point lead over their Manchester rivals but there is a stark difference in their performances.

Only twice this season have the opposition registered more shots on target than City, with the general pattern being one of dominance for Manuel Pellegrini’s men.

When it comes to betting on the two Manchester teams, the gap in the league might be narrowing but there is still a gulf in class.
