To Mel and Back

They rejected him after talks in December, but West Brom have now announced Pepe Mel as their new head coach.

Pepe Mel is the new manager of West Brom with cynics suggesting the club had run out of other viable options.

Talks broke down with the former Betis boss last month reportedly because the 50-year-old wanted to bring in his own backroom staff. But agreement has now been reached, on the understanding he works with Keith Downing and Dean Kiely.

Mel enjoyed a successful three year spell with Betis before a poor run of form saw him sacked with the team rock bottom of La Liga in December.

The Baggies are currently available at longest odds of 10/1 (Ladbrokes) to be relegated this season; they sit four points above the drop zone after one win in their last 10 league games.
