Sunderland v Newcastle Tip

It was 3-0 to the Black Cats last time they met. The Toon Army are out for revenge.

A fascinating Tyne-Wear derby is in prospect for Gus Poyet’s first home game in charge of Sunderland. The former Brighton boss will be dreaming of the sort of impact Di Canio had in this fixture in April when the Mackems won 3-0 at St James’s Park.

Surely nothing so remarkable will occur this time, even if Sunderland have to be better than the shambolic bunch who lost 4-0 at Swansea last time out. That made it one point from eight matches and just two wins from 22 Premier League matches.

Newcastle will be licking their lips but with the added motivation of avenging last season’s shocker. The Magpies actually have a great recent top flight record at the Stadium of Light (W5 D5 L1) and it should continue on Sunday.

They face a pretty woeful defence, and having scored two in each of their last six matches across all competitions. Star striker Loic Remy looks a particularly good bet for first goalscorer at best odds of 6/1 with BetVictor.

The French international has scored 63% of the Toon’s league goals (5 of 8) since opening his account against Hull on 21 September and he will be keen to now make himself a derby hero.

In what is always likely to be a combustible fixture, BetVictor are offering a refund on losing bets if there is a red card shown at any time during the match. They are also offering the best odds available on the market for Remy.

*If a red card is shown at any time during the Sunderland v Newcastle or Chelsea v Manchester City matches, BetVictor will refund selected losing bets on that particular match as a free bet up to £25.
