Saints Doubters Have Short Memories

Pelle and Mane are back among the goals and Southampton are by far the better team over the season.

Football’s a strange game. Not only are Leicester City suddenly winning most weeks, but they are also now expected to do so. But if they were that dependable, they wouldn’t have been bottom of the league for most of the campaign!

It’s with this in mind that we should back ‘underdogs’ Southampton to win at a best price of 19/10.

Despite a recent mini-slump, the Saints are still enjoying a magnificent season and maintain realistic hopes of finishing in the top six. Spurs are only one point better off, with a much worse goal difference, and probably feel less motivated to finish well.

The visitors are 23 points better than the Foxes, conceded 26 goals fewer and scored 9 goals more in 2014-15. They have also taken more points on the road than Pearson’s boys have done at home.

The match odds are therefore too structured around form and are ignoring all the long-term indicators of quality.
