Premier League Title Tip: Tottenham Hotspur e/w

Spurs ran Leicester very close last term and have only improved their squad, albeit with little fanfare. Another top three finish makes us some money with the possibility of so much more.

The bookies have overreacted to the opening round of Premier League matches and the good news is the value in the title market has consequently become a little clearer.

Tottenham have been eased out to a best price of 12/1 and if we take that as an each-way proposition with Bet365 then we’ll make a small profit if they simply repeat last season’s top-three finish.

The shift in price came about following Spurs’ 1-1 draw at Goodison Park on Saturday which most sensible observers would regard as a credible result. Yes the Manchester clubs won, but they had far easier fixtures.

The comparison with Liverpool is particularly stark. Klopp’s boys won 4-3 at Arsenal and now find themselves nothing longer than 7/1. But why? They caught the Gunners at a good time, they had similar showings last term but finished 8th, and their defence looks very concerning!

Yet Pochettino’s side boasted the joint best defence in 2015-16 and the second best attack. They were Leicester’s only true title rivals and they have made two decent, though low profile, summer additions to the squad.

Victor Wanyama will add steel and variety to the midfield while Vincent Janssen looked bright at Everton and will provide a genuine alternative or support to Harry Kane.

Spurs have improved and the other title favourites need to improve by a lot more to claim the silverware. The odds currently look speculative at best for the very biggest clubs and we can take advantage.

*Back Tottenham each-way at 12/1 with Bet365 and get paid out at 1/5th odds if they finish second or third instead of first.
