Resurgent Black Cats Ready To Pounce
Adam Johnson is back on top form and the Mackems may be en route to safety.
A cursory look at the league table seems to explain why Southampton pitch up as favourites (29/20 StanJames) to win at the Stadium of Light on Saturday lunchtime. After all, they sit in the top half of the league table while Sunderland remain in the relegation zone. But take away the start of the season and the picture looks very different.
If we analyse what the table would have looked like had we begun at the end of October, when Gus Poyet took charge of his first home game, then the Black Cats would actually be ahead of the Saints.

Sunderland: P13 W4 D4 L5 Pts 16
Southampton: P13 W4 D3 L6 Pts 15
Mauricio Pochettino’s boys have won only 2 of their last 10 top flight outings while the Mackems have won their last three in all competitions. Their golden week included a 2-1 success over Man Utd and a 4-1 hammering of Fulham at Craven Cottage last time out.
With their confidence sky high, and home advantage, Sunderland are definitely overpriced at best odds of 11/5 with BetVictor.
