Premier League Preview

AVB under real pressure

Chelsea's trip to Newcastle looks like the game of the weekend. Blues boss AVB is now just 3/1 (PaddyPower) to be next top flight manager out of a job.

Our guide to the most interesting bets in the weekend’s football. All odds given are best on the market. Just click on any of the links, sign up with the relevant bookie and claim your free bets.

Newcastle v Chelsea:

Demba Ba is scoring Premier league goals at a frequency that AVB can only dream of where is own squad is concerned. The ex-Hammer is 13/2 (Coral) to break the deadlock here. But no club has scored more first half goals than Chelsea (15). They are 7/4 (StanJames) to lead at the break, 6/5 (Ladbrokes) at full-time. A home win is 11/4 (Skybet).

Blackburn v Swansea City:

It has been said, somewhat cruelly, that Steve Kean is so beleagured he couldn’t even win the race to be the first manager sacked. He is 10/11 (PaddyPower) in that fresh market after Steve Bruce took a bullet. An away win at 13/5 (VictorChandler) could make the position of the Rovers boss untenable. On the other hand, Swansea haven’t scored for a month and Kean has a few defenders back. Blackburn to win with a clean sheet is also 13/5 (Bet365).

Man City v Norwich:

So prolific have Mancini’s boys been that they are 5/4 (Skybet) to win this fixture by three goals or more. Against a side in the top half who have acquitted themselves well against the big boys, perhaps the 18/5 (VictorChandler) on City to win by one looks shrewder. Grant Holt keeps doing the business off the bench for Norwich; he is 16/1 (Bet365) to be last goalscorer here. An astonishing away win is the same price (16/1 StanJames).

QPR v West Brom:

These two last met in the Championship in March 2010 with the hosts winning 3-1; a repeat is 18/1 (Skybet). Heider Helguson is looking to find the net for the fourth home game in a row - a 21/10 shot (Bet365). Peter Odemwingie recently appeared to fall out with his manager; he could start here, and is 7/1 (Ladbrokes) to open the scoring.

Tottenham v Bolton:

Spurs are ten top flight games unbeaten and continue to score goals for fun - at least two in every league fixture since August. They are 19/4 (StanJames) to win this one by three goals. Kevin Davies has scored six in his last six against Tottenham in all competitions; he is 5/1 (WilliamHill) in the ‘anytime’ market. A first Bolton draw of the season is 9/2 (VictorChandler).

Wigan v Arsenal:

In a famous clash here two seasons ago Wigan scored three times in the last 10 minutes to secure a remarkable 3-2 win over the Gunners. A repeat of that scoreline is 66/1 (Boylesports) this time. A home win of any description is 11/2 (Betfred). Arsenal have recouped more points from losing positions than anyone in the division. They are 25/1 (Totesport) to triumph after trailing at half-time on Saturday.

Aston Villa v Man Utd:

The hosts are 19/4 (StanJames) to record only their second win against the champions in 30 games in all competitions. All five of Darren Bent’s goals this season have come at Villa Park and he is 9/4 (Bluesquare) to add to that tally. Wayne Rooney is 6/5 (Sportingbet) to end a barren run of seven league matches in front of goal. United are 3/4 (WilliamHill) to win again.

Everton v Stoke:

The Toffees are seeking a third consecutive league win for the first time in nearly two years; they are 3/4 (Paddypower) to do so. Tim Cahill is 2/1 (Boylesports) to end his worst goal drought since joining the club in 2004. Kenwyne Jones scored in Stoke’s first win over Everton since 1982 last time; he is 11/1 (VictorChandler) to break the deadlock here.

Wolves v Sunderland:

Jamie O’Hara returns from suspension having scored in the last three matches to be played at Molinieux; he is 11/1 (Ladbrokes) in the first goalscorer betting. Wolves are looking for a fourth win on the spin against the Black Cats at 6/4 (WilliamHill). It looks like Martin O’Neill will be the new boss at the Stadium of Light. If you think that announcement in itself can rally the troops then take Sunderland for victory at 85/40 (VictorChandler).

Fulham v Liverpool:

The Reds won this fixture 5-2 at Craven Cottage last term: a repeat can be snapped up at 250/1 (PaddyPower). Maxi Rodriguez bagged a hat-trick that day, but perhaps Luis Suarez may be the only realistic contender do that this time at 66/1 (Bet365). Fulham have failed to score in six of their last eight against Liverpool, and have managed just one home league victory in eight. They are 13/5 (Boylesports) to put the record straight by claiming all three points.
