Next West Brom Manager Betting Tip

Internal promotions are more common than you think. Just look at Terry Connor, Steve Kean and Roberto Di Matteo.

With Roy Hodgson looking a certainty to take the England job, a market has already opened on the identity of the next West Brom manager. Looking at the early betting the usual suspects such as Steve Bruce and Alan Curbishley appear. There is no particular reason for them to turn up at the Hawthorns other than because they are unemployed.

Chris Hughton and Roberto Martinez are vying for early favouritism but neither have expressed any desire to move from their current positions. It isn’t beyond the realms of possibility that both managers could actually finish above West Brom in the Premier League next season with their current clubs.

In these markets the value is often to be found amongst the lesser lights. Of the four Premier League managerial sackings this year, two have been replaced by internal promotions. Terry Connor took over at Wolves, whilst Roberto Di Matteo is favourite to become the next permanent Chelsea manager.  Steve Kean was another to come through the ranks although probably not one to mention if chatting to the West Brom board.

The fact remains that clubs feel comfortable recruiting from within. A current member of staff can offer continuity whilst also being cheaper to hire, with no compensation needed.

West Brom are starting to look an established team in the Premier League and there must be the temptation to offer Dean Kiely the role. Having been at the club for the last six seasons he is likely to have a good rapport with the board and the playing staff. After a successful campaign, the decision-makers might not want to rock the boat and at 14/1 (Skybet) he looks the value bet.
