Sven failed to deliver amid high expectations

A former Filbert Street favourite is the bookies' pick to replace Sven.

Big spending Leicester City are back in the market for a man to guide them to the Premier League, following the departure of Sven-Goran Eriksson by ‘mutual consent’ on Monday. The former England boss was on wafer-thin ice after a 3-0 home defeat to Millwall left the Foxes down in 13th spot having won just five of their first 13 league matches. It was not the return that the owners were demanding having spent over £20m in the last year since the Swede signed.

Legendary former Leicester manager Martin O’Neil has quickly been installed as the red-hot favourite for the vacated post; he’s a best price of 6/5 with StanJames, while several firms make him odds-on. The man from Northern Ireland guided the Foxes to the League Cup final three times, and they lifted the trophy in 1997 and 2000. He also helped the east Midlanders secure a succession of Premier League top-half finishes in what was a golden period for the club.

Other names in the frame are former Man City boss Mark Hughes (5/1 WilliamHill) and Billy Davies (8/1 SkyBet). Money has also been laid on Huddersfield manager Lee Clark (10/1 Bet365). He has taken the League One side on a 39-match unbeaten league run - the fourth longest domestic unbeaten league run in English football history.
