Manchester Utd v Arsenal Tip

Some big wins have masked major defensive frailty for United. The odds on them dropping points are generous.

The 4th round of the Capital One Cup is an unlikely time for a season-defining moment for Arsenal, but so it could prove to be. The Gunners were in tatters, humiliated, at 4-0 down to Reading with their own fans turning against them. So soon after defeats to Norwich and Schalke, a potential crisis loomed. But then Wenger’s boys pulled off one of the greatest ever comebacks to win 7-5 and the rest, as they say, is history.

We shouldn’t worry too much about the emotional toll of midweek for Arsenal either. The Londoners essentially rested the whole first team but the mood of the whole club will have been lifted. Furthermore, the likes of Walcott, Giroud and Chamakh will suddenly be full of confidence after claiming six goals between them at the Madejski Stadium.

For the trip to Old Trafford Wenger can also now call upon a midfield that should truly compete with the hosts. Luke Wilshire returned against QPR alongside Arteta, Ramsey and Cazorla. It should be electrifying once the Englishman is fully match fit.

As for Manchester United, good final scores have papered over some pretty big defensive cracks lately. They were hugely fortunate to beat Chelsea 3-2 in the league and similar could be said of 3-2 and 4-2 home victories over Braga and Stoke respectively. The understudies faired worse, losing 5-4 in the Cup.

The Gunners have superior attacking options to the Portuguese and the Potters so should fancy their chances of scoring on Saturday. The bookies offer us a best price of 6/5 (Betfred) on Arsenal-Draw in the double chance market and that looks appealing as it may just be their week.
