Man City v Tottenham Tip

The visitors are surely more likely to lead at half time than full time but the bookies offer us similar odds.

Tottenham are a maddening team to bet on. One day they are winning at Old Trafford and another they’re losing at home to Wigan. But one thing they almost always do is compete and score against the best teams.

Manchester City have a record at the Etihad that commands respect; they haven’t lost there in the league since December 2010. But the champions haven’t looked the same force so far this campaign and results have been achieved in often unconvincing style.

When you look back at the corresponding fixture from last season you can see how evenly matched these sides are on any given day. Spurs were inches away from stealing a 3-2 victory in the last minute before Balotelli fired in a controversial injury-time penalty winner.

The most interesting thing from a betting perspective is that AVB’s boys look long at a best price of 11/2 (BetVictor) for the away win - but you can kind of see why based on recent history. However, Tottenham are nearly as long a price (5/1 Bet365) just to be ahead at half-time, and that seems considerably more plausible.

The Lilywhites are certainly more than capable of getting their noses in front - they’ve led Chelsea and Man United already in 2011-12 - but you have more doubts about their ability to hold on. With this wager we don’t need to worry about that. Potentially, we can leave the fraught nail-biting to the Spurs fans as we may be in the money already.
