Macedonia were much the better team when the sides met at Hampden and have won 5 of their last 6 on home turf.
For all the talk about an improving Scotland team under Gordon Strachan, the Tartan Army still stand on the brink of their worst ever qualifying campaign, with the prospect of finishing last in Group A looming large.
Admittedly, there was a standout 1-0 victory over Croatia to celebrate in June, but that bore all the hallmarks of a fluke result that may not ultimately signal a major reversal of fortunes.
Scotland have taken just two points from their other seven World Cup qualifiers and travel without the recently retired Kenny Miller, as well as Jordan Rhodes and Charlie Adam.
