Liverpool v Man Utd Tip

An emotional day at Anfield.

United haven't won at Anfield since 2007 and they rarely escape with so much as a point.

The Merseysiders have lived in the shadow of their Mancunian rivals for most of the past two decades, but that hasn’t always been reflected in this fixture. Liverpool have won four and drawn one of the most recent five clashes at Anfield in all competitions. On what will be a hugely emotional day for the Kop faithful, they look value at 9/5 with StanJames to take a further three points.

The doubters will point to the fact that Brendan Rodgers is yet to taste league victory in the Liverpool dugout. While that is true, they were agonisingly close to taking the spoils when champions City visited Anfield and fortuitously escaped with a 2-2 draw.

The Reds are surely bound to find their shooting boots soon. With 75 shots already in 2012-13, no other top flight team has registered more attempts. Luis Suarez has 7 goals in his last 11 league games, yet has still managed a further 13 off-target efforts this season.

United may be picking up results pretty well, but the performance levels have been patchy. The 1-0 triumph over Galatasaray was as unconvincing as the 3-2 victory at Southampton on their last away trip. Before that, there was a loss at Everton; a Merseyside double could be in the offing as Liverpool fans come to commemorate the Hillsborough victims.
