Liverpool go from bad to worse and don’t warrant being long odds-on. The value is in opposing them.
The problems at Liverpool have been well documented with defeat at Newcastle a new nadir this season. It is impossible to ignore the problems at Anfield, unless you are a bookmaker it seems. Most firms go 4/9 on a home win, despite Liverpool earning maximum points at Anfield only five times this season.
Aston Villa arrive with problems of their own. Alex McLeish has struggled to win over the fans and his team are being sucked into a relegation battle. This might actually work in their favour this weekend. We have already seen how a relegation dogfight can focus the mind, with the likes of Bolton, Wigan and QPR winning in recent weeks.
For all their problems Aston Villa actually boast a better record than Liverpool over their last eight games. With the natives growing restless, it is the perfect time to visit Merseyside.
If Villa show the same spirit they displayed against Chelsea last weekend, they can leave Anfield with three points. At 8/1 (Boylesports) the odds are simply too big.
