Liverpool 2013-14 Preview

Brendan Rodgers seems to have the club moving in the right direction regardless of the fate of a certain Uruguayan.

Best odds to finish top four: 11/5 (StanJames)
Last season: 7th

Reasons for hope:

The Reds showed they could pick up results without Suarez at the back end of last season and did in fact outperform both Manchester clubs from mid-February until the end of the season (P12 W7 D4 L1). In that run they also scored the most goals in the division and in fact had more shots than anyone for 2012-13 as a whole.

Potential bet: PL highest scoring team - Liverpool: 25/1 (PaddyPower)

Reasons to worry:

If Suarez does go, or stays and sulks, then Liverpool have a problem. The Uruguayan scored 30 goals and grabbed 11 assists across all competitions and that in a team that still finished 7th.

Potential bet: Liverpool top league goalscorer - Daniel Sturridge: 2/1 (Ladbrokes). Even if Suarez stays then this could easily happen. The England striker bagged 10 in 14 league appearances after arriving in January.

Verdict:

On the face of it, much depends on how the Suarez situation resolves itself. However, the astute purchases of Coutinho, Sturridge and Mignolet should ensure a genuine push for the top four regardless.
