Liverpool 11/4 for Cup Double

Gerrard: First Wembley triumph with Liverpool

After edging past a plucky Cardiff City in a penalty shootout, the Reds will be hungry for more silverware.

Liverpool are the 2012 Carling Cup champions after being taken the distance by Cardiff City at Wembley. The Championship team led at half-time before the Merseysiders forced extra time. The drama was only just beginning though as first Dirk Kuyt fired the Reds in front before Ben Turner made it 2-2.

When Steven Gerrard and Charlie Adam both failed from the spot it looked like the upset was inevitable. But Cardiff just couldn’t finish the job, missing three of their five attempts to hand Dalglish’s men victory.

The Anfield club are now 11/4 (Coral) to complete a domestic double by lifting the FA Cup; Liverpool face Stoke City in the quarter finals of that competition. Although, they would probably swap that success for Champions League football next season - a top four finish is a 9/2 shot with Ladbrokes.

Meanwhile, Malky Mackay’s brave runners-up are 3/1 (Skybet) to bounce back from their disappointment by gaining promotion to the top flight.
