Lawro v The Bookies: 18/2/2011

Mark Lawrenson loves predicting football results but is he better than the bookmakers?

Mark Lawrenson - he doesn’t have eight legs or live in a fish tank but he loves a prediction. Readers of the BBC Sport website will know that Lawrenson was a regular predictor before Paul the Octopus stole his limelight. With that cephalopod mollusc out the way he can finally reclaim his crown.

Every Friday Mark Lawrenson attempts to predict the scores of the weekend’s Premier League or FA Cup games. According to the BBC Lawrenson is no pin sticker, he is a football expert. But is he better than the bookmakers?

Each week we will be putting a hypothetical £1 on Lawrenson’s correct score predictions at the best available odds. The theory being that if he ends up in profit, he is better than bookmakers at predicting football results. If he loses - he can go to Sky.
