Andre Villas-Boas is the 9/4 (Bet365) favourite to fill the vacant Liverpool post after reports suggest he’s been sounded out by club intermediaries. The former Chelsea boss clearly feels that he isn’t short of options despite his dismissal from Stamford Bridge in March. “I’m still choosing the right project and that decision will take the neccessary time,” he said.
It will be interesting to see if the Reds’ owners at Fenway Sports Group (FSG) will opt instead for a candidate who sounds a little more enthusiastic. Roberto Martinez (7/2 bodog) is making all the right noises and Wigan have made him available. But a lack of experience at the higher end of the Premier League may ultimately count against the Spaniard.
Liverpool appear to have cast their net far and wide in the search for the right man, and may be prepared to take their time. Ajax manager Frank De Boer is the latest figure to be heavily backed by punters. The Dutchman is a best price 20/1 (Skybet) to sign up at Anfield despite appearing to distance himself from the job.
