Hughes The Man

Mark Hughes

Mark Hughes is favourite to become the next Aston Villa boss with rumours circulating that Gerard Houllier is about to be replaced.

According to BBC Midlands, Gerard Houllier is expected to leave Aston Villa by Wednesday. Having missed the end of the season because of health problems it was always uncertain whether the Frenchman would be fit to resume. Reports suggest that regardless of how Houllier perceives his ability to continue in the role, owner Randy Lerner is unwilling to risk the ex-Liverpool manager’s return to the dugout.

The betting markets have been a hive of activity with Mark Hughes 5/4 to be the next Aston Villa manager. Everton boss David Moyes is second favourite at 4/1 with the out of work pair of Rafa Benitez 11/2 and Steve McClaren 10/1 completing the top four contenders.
