Championship Top Goalscorer Tip 2016-17: Ross McCormack

Villa's new £14m signing has scored at least 17 league goals at this level on five occasions. Nobody else can compete with that pedigree.

We’re going in again with the same Championship top goalscorer tip as last term having had to settle for the runner-up spot in 2015-16.

Ross McCormack is the Championship striker of his generation having found the net 116 times at this level for Cardiff, Leeds and Fulham. Last season he struck 21 league goals for a side who could only finish 20th with that contribution.

The 29-year-old’s efforts have been all the more remarkable given that they have mainly come as part of mediocre sides.

Now he teams up with Roberto Di Matteo at Aston Villa and it remains to be seen how much of a step up that actually is. The only sure thing is that it looks like a spectacular piece of business for the long-time Premier League outfit.

If the Scotland international had enough chances created for him at Craven Cottage then surely he can at least repeat his escapades surrounded by the likes of Jordan Ayew and maybe even Agbonlahor and Grealish if they get their mojo back.

At 12/1 with BetVictor McCormack is a great bet and we should go each-way with 1/4 odds for a top four finish - a hugely likely prospect based on nearly a decade of strong service at this level.
