Huddersfield v Wigan Tip

The Terriers are unbeaten in 7 at home and the new manager will be desperate to make his mark.

If there’s one thing we know about Roberto Martinez it’s that he feels no qualms whatsoever about using fringe players in the cup competitions. Those players have been sufficient to squeeze Wigan past Macclesfield and Bournemouth by 1-0 scorelines in previous rounds, but Huddersfield should be trickier still.

This will be the first match in charge of the Terriers for Mark Robins, a man with great personal memories of the FA Cup, and therefore I can’t see him taking it lightly. He has the chance to put Town into the quarter-finals for the first time in 41 years - potentially not a bad way to endear yourself to a new set of fans!

Robins can take encouragement from results that have already improved under caretaker Mark Lillis. He guided Huddersfield to a 2-1 success at Leicester in midweek to set up this fifth round tie. Furthermore, the Championship outfit are now unbeaten in seven matches at the John Smith’s Stadium with four points recently taken off promotion-chasing Cardiff and Palace.

Consider that Wigan haven’t won a league game yet in 2013 and that their hearts may not be fully in it, and they shouldn’t be favourites at best odds of 29/20 (BetVictor). Instead, I’m backing the Terriers to pull off a minor upset at the market-leading price of 9/4 with Bet365.
