Europa League Kicks Off

Fulham start early

We are in the middle of Wimbledon and the calendar hasn’t even turned to July. Amazingly, Fulham start their football season in the Europa League tonight.

As a ‘reward’ for their fair play, the Fulham squad start their season in June with the Europa League. Pitched against the part-timers NSI Runavik, the millionaires of the Premier League have a summer break in the Faroe Isles to enjoy in the return leg.

At 1/50 to win the game, Fulham can afford to rest their star players for what should be a routine win. That a 3-0 home victory is favourite with the bookmakers tells you all you need to know.

Runners-up in 2010, Martin Jol’s team will have to play 23 games if they are to reach the final again. An extra 50% more games compared to a normal domestic season. Paddy Power make Fulham a 40/1 chance to go one better this year.

With such a gruelling schedule in prospect, Fulham are 10/1 to be relegated from the Premier League. What ever happens in the next 10 months, don’t expect the players to be so ‘fair’ next time round.
