Eto’o Key To Chelsea Revival

Jose Mourinho’s return has been underwhelming so far and in the short term his fate rests with Samuel Eto’o .

It’s been a stuttering start to the season for Chelsea, with back to back defeats not expected on the prodigal son’s return.

Jose Mourinho says his side’s poor form is because he is trying to improve their style of play but the major problem is personnel for one position – striker.

Chelsea Shot Statistics

In the last five season’s Chelsea’s shot statistics have been on the decline. They are taking fewer shots and a lower percentage are on target. That suggests the quantity and quality of strikes on goal are diminishing.

A large proportion of the blame lies with the strikers. Demba Ba and Fernando Torres have been disappointing, therefore it’s no surprise Jose Mourinho was so keen on recruiting Wayne Rooney during the summer.

The move failed to materialise, so Mourinho opted to go with his trusted ally Samuel Eto’o.

The former Cameroon international made an immediate impact against Everton last weekend. He had six shots and should have scored at least once.

Both a creator and finisher of goals, the 32-year-old will be crucial in moving Chelsea’s shot statistics in the right direction.
